Korean Food

Lunch meeting at Royal Korean Restaurant.

I can choose the days when to eat seafoods. And this is one of those. It is a little bit heavy on my stomach. But delish!

There was a squid dish, a seafood omelette-like cake (I forgot what it's called), a chap chae, a mackerel (not on the picture) and these little dishes of kimchi, bean sprouts, and other veggies that I really enjoy.

It rained again today. A blessing. And blessings do pour. I have a lot of reasons to be happy about. I can not even begin to tell you. ;-)

a visit to poppy

I paid Poppy a visit.

Poppy lives somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd floor.

And he lives at the very end of this hallway.

Hi Poppy!

He's so shy.

Poppy is my student's pet. I'm fond of him. Hedgehogs are so cute. I thought of getting one but I'm not really good at taking care of pets. I think my guitars are enough.

Shabu Shabu Session

All veggies in my shabu shabu. Cook yam, egg noodles and corn first for 10 minutes and then add the greens, tofu, mushroom, carrots, glass noodle and cook for 5 minutes more. At least that's what I do anyway.

I think it's ready.

Dessert, along with iced tea, is included in the set menu of sirloin strips and veggies at Healthy Shabu Shabu for only PhP1,200++. Good for four people. Highly recommended!

I even got to take home the left over ingredients. Great for another soup.

And that's all folks. Wonder Woman says bye bye. =)

Summer food

Munching on raw almonds in a taxi on my way to work.

Here's what I made for dinner last night.

It is unbelievably hot these days so I thought of preparing cold soba for myself... and Fried Chicken for my meat loving housemates (which has nothing to do with the hot weather). I also made Agedashi Tofu that I didn't mind eating cold. I love to put lots of grated daikon on it.

The soba I put on a sushi mat because I don't have a zaru.

This is a blurry picture. My soba tsuyu or dipping sauce has chopped green onions and grated ginger. Just dip the soba quickly or the sauce will overpower its taste.

Cold green tea. I realized we don't have sugar at home. Organic Grade B Maple Syrup taste really good with anything especially with pancakes. But really really expensive. Every drop is gold.

Eggplant Parmigiana

Eggplants for lunch yesterday. My stomach was about to burst after eating this stuff. Very filling.

Fresh calamansi juice with no sugar.

I'm thinking of cooking soba for tonight. The weather is extremely hot. A cold soba is great summer food.

UP College of Music Graduation 2008

Today is the graduation of UP College of Music students. Almost two years ago, it was ours.

There were 5 guitar majors who graduated that day.

Here's our performance during the program. Sorry for the bad audio.

A Ramirez and the return of Bartolex

Somebody is selling his Jose Ramirez 4E for PhP96,000. Leave a comment if interested.

A view outside where we rehearse.

I just got my bartolex again today. I had the action repaired last saturday. It is much more playable and the projection got better. Now time to practice!

Canción del Fuego Fatuo

I am learning this piece today. For guitar, of course.

It's always nice to hear the original instrumentation. Manuel de Falla wrote this first for a chamber group, then as a symphonic suite, then a ballet. Cancion del Fuego Fatuo is just one movement of a bigger work El Amor Brujo. The transcription I'm using is from Emilio Pujol and it involves a lot of pizzicatos. I have developed a nice callus on my right hand thumb. ;-)

Lo mismo que er fuego fatuo
Lo mismito es er quere
Le huyes y te persigue
Le yamas y echa corre
Lo mismo que er fuego fatuo
Lo mismito es er quere

Malhaya los ojos negros
que le alcanzaron a ver
Malhaya er corason triste
que en su yama quiso, arder
Lo mismo que el fuego fatuo
Se desvanece er quere.

This video is one of the nicer versions I've heard on youtube. Great singer, Rocio Jurado (1946-2006).

Fruits and Desserts

I noticed recently that I haven't been eating properly. It's always fruits and desserts. I have to be careful with sugars. Where are my vegetables, anyway?

See? A lemon meringue torte. I also drank a cappucino. Caffeine = palpitations. Ugh.

Here's another one. Yogurt with strawberries, mochi and almonds.

Papaya.

My cutest, 9 year old student came over and brought me fruits!

I miss vegetables. Should eat them raw. =)

Library

A glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. That took about 5 oranges.

Played at a wedding party last night. Very cool and unpretentious couple. Best Wishes and Congratulations to them. =)

Sadly, no food for vegetarians. Some chicken chunks are hiding in this potato salad. I accidentally ate a little which caused minor tummy ache. hahaha. The fruits I took from the chocolate fondue bar.

A library in the heart of Makati Business District. =)

Strata Recording

We recorded National Artist Jose Maceda's composition STRATA last July 2007.

José Maceda: Drone and Melody

Guitars 1, 2, 3 and my own.

---------------------------------

Too lazy to do the "real" cut and paste. Tablature part makes the piece too long. We want to avoid having to do page turns.

I can see my guitar class room from here. Behind the golden shower.

Veggie samosa with coriander and tamarind sauces.

Milagro Guitar MRC6

Got this the other day. Nice guitar that comes with a really nice case. I can't say anything about the sound yet since this is still fresh from the shop. Maybe wait for a few days or weeks. ;-)

Thank you for the trees. Weather is still very hot.
